Velux roof windows

Velux windows, gaydon Warwickshire.
Not had any posts on here for a while so thought we best keep you all updated.

One job we did last week was to supply and install 3 electric velux roof windows (electric velux roof windows). All 3 windows were all to be installed well out of reach and required to be operated by remote. Velux electric range of roof windows offer remote control operated opening and closing and also remote operating of the blinds or shutters. Each window come complete with a remote but each remote can control upto 3 windows and 3 sets of blinds. So all 3 windows that were to be installed were all controlled via a single remote.
Installation was restively straight for as ever and also very quick. The customer opted for internally white plastic finished windows rather than the usual pine finish. These are slightly more expensive than the common pine finish but this extra more than outweighs the time painting the pine.if your interested in velux roof windows then please contact Mbuild for a supply and fit service. Interior walls

All the interior timber stud walls are up. All stud for the interior walls is all made on site rather than prefab. 4×2 studs, full fill insulation and then 12.5mm plasterboard. Roof trusses are also starting to go on.

Its going up quick.

Second day for the crane and this time it was to lift up and in all the external wall panels. All panels are pre insulated and cut to size. This all go straight on the prefab floor and each panel is fixed to the next. Once these are up the internal stud work can be built to form the layout of the walls and rooms.not bad for 2 days work.

It’s Crane time

Crane arrived Onsite early this morning along with the delivery of prefab floor cassettes. The cassettes are made up a webbed floors joist with a 22mm chipboard bonded on top. 5 cassettes in total are used which all lock together when laid onto the wall plates to create the new floor. All flooring and someplace a were fitted today and it is now ready for the 1st floor wall panel to go on tomorrow

Off with the roof in with the wall plates

So after a long 18 hour weekend on site, 5 men and 6 skips the roof covering and rafters are all off and the new wall plates are down.
All wall plates are within the +/- 5mm tolerance needed for the timber frame work and floor.
Crane arrives tomorrow and the new floor can go down.

More progress and this time in the sun

At last we had sunshine today.
After a long 2 days we have finally stripped all the felt and straw panels from the flat Roof and have only half of the pitched roof left to strip.
The flat roof at some point I think had been redone as the felt was nearly 50mm in places a took 3 of us to lift some sections off.
We plan to finish stripping the roof felt and remove all the joists tomorrow and then level bed the wall plates on Sunday. All work is still
On schedule and the progress is now moving at a greater speed thanks to the weather.

The Roof strip and demolition begins

Day 2 at gaydon, Warwickshire.
Another horrible day! Today was not the best day to start the roof demolition but we are on a strict deadline for Monday when the 40 ton crane will be on site so the timber work can start. We started by removing all slates and lath. We then peeled back the felt to reveal another roof covering. So it had been re-roofed at some Point but rather than replacing they had counter lathed it and the started fresh on top of the original roof. The second and original Covering was constructed from compressed straw panels topped with 5 layers of hot felt and then 10mm shingle. I can honestly I’ve not come across the straw panels before and what a pig they are to remove.
The image below shows the second roof covering, after we had removed the slates. Here there 2 lads are stripping away the layers of felt so we can get at the straw panels.Not a great day but we did well Considering the non stop rain. Hopefully tomorrow will bring sunshine!
